| 7/23/08 - Blackfen School for Girls, in Sidcup, Kent, in the UK, has selected wireless technology from Meru Networks, a provider of wireless infrastructure solutions.
According to the company, Meru wireless LAN provides Internet access for staff and pupils across the campus, regardless of their location. The solution provides students with access to ICT in many of their lessons, without the need to go into a specially-furnished IT suite. The Meru solution, provided by specialist distributor Siracom, reportedly solves the problem of channel planning in wireless network deployment. Its architecture puts all the access points on the same channel, and employs patented technology to deliver high performance and quality of service.
In addition, running voice on the Meru network could save the school up to GBP25,000, which would have been the cost to extend the school's Samsung PBX exchange, with a set of proprietary wireless phones. Instead, the school had the PBX connected to an open-source voice exchange and now uses Wi-Fi phones on the Meru network.
